Are the sizes of womens clothing getting smaller? Net users are sharing their frustrating shopping experiences when they try on a shirt or jeans and find the size they usually wear is too small!
The sentiment was echoed by many female buyers, who called on fashion stores to standardize their sizing for womens clothing.
Studies have shown that shoppers prefer to buy clothing labeled with small sizes because it boosts our confidence. So as the weight of the average American woman rose, from 140 lb in 1960 to 168.5 lb in 2014, brands adjusted their metrics to help more of us squeeze into more-desirable sizes (and get us to buy more clothes).
In the 50s, curvy was beautiful. Now, we have this crazy notion that thinner is prettier. There are people who have thyroid conditions, metabolic conditions, and other hormone issues that makes it difficult for them to gain or lose weight. Why is the sizing making it so difficult for those people? Why cant it just be universal?
Its even more detrimental to our self-esteem. Were emboldened with a false confidence when we wear smaller sizes. When it comes to sizing with larger numbers, we may be led to believe were bigger than we really are.
Not only is this system messing with the industry, it’s messing with our own perceptions of ourselves, specifically in believing that our bodies may be assigned to a certain size, versus what they actually are.
